What is it?
Amalfi Coast is an UNESCO World Heritage site, and Positano contribute to the glory with the most extraordinary panoramic view of the ocean. Located on a hill by the sea, multi-colored houses on the side of a cliff, makes it fairytale-like picturesque. It is a sensual blend of both natural and cultural wonders.
By road. Situated an hour and a quarter south of Naples, drive to Positano crosses past Pompeii and Mount Vesuvius, Sorrento and then along the mountain coastline until the high swoop to the town begins. Travellers could take a bus or a train till Naples and then a road transport to Positano. The road to Positano and around the Amalfi Coast region definitely lives up to the reputation as one of the most beautiful and dangerous roads in the world.
Positano enchants the locals, tourists and celebrities alike. It’s never too difficult to have a conversation in Positano. The locals here are very warm and welcoming, they speak fair bit of English and are always willing to help. Italian culture and love for the art is no secret and hence Positano also houses some interesting art galleries, boutique shops and ceramic paintings shop that are unique to the coastline.
It’s interesting to note that Lemon enjoys a distinct status. The significance of Lemon in the region is not only limited to food and fruits but in art, fabrics and ceramic paintings lemon is something one can’t miss.
There’s barely a bad food experience ever in Positano, eat out as places as old as 1949, or at a family-owned restaurant, or even at the road side restaurant, the food is mouth-wateringly delicious. Moreover, the restaurants don’t rush customers to order, dining out for them is an experience they offer and not just business.
People feast on Mediterranean inspired cuisine with a glass of Pinot Grigio and a shot of a Limon cello. Desserts and Gelatos are simply delectable. In fact, Positano offers plethora of options for vegetarians and vegans as well.
Positano is a very vertical place with lots of stairs and inclines, so a pair of comfortable flip flops or walking shoes is mandatory. To chill on a beach or to explore the local market, for sightseeing or even to go back to your hotel; stairs are unavoidable. The town has easy going, slow paced, and relaxing vibe. No one seems to be in rush and seem to be enjoying life.
There are options of doing day trips to Capri Island, Sorrento and several other small islands. Capri is the most popular day trip amongst all. The excursion begins at 9:00 AM in the morning and ends around 6:00 PM. While the island is an attraction in itself, there are several spectacular natural wonders stop points on the way like the Blue Grotto (sea cave) that draw attention. Around the Blue Grotto there are certain areas where tourists do sea swimming. The beaches, the rocks and the scenic setting enroute are all shooting locations for luxury brands.
